As creator of the Python coding language, Guido Van Rossum is a celebrity in the software engineering world. He’s your favorite technologist’s favorite technologist. When Capital One went to the 2019 Pycon conference (you know... the biggest Python coding language conference in the world), we wanted to make an impact and connect with the Python community. So, we decided to celebrate Guido. We did it in the most over-the-top, easter-egg-riddled, tongue-in-cheek, heroic way possible. We commissioned an amazing portrait of him. Best part—we donated the portrait to the Pyladies non profit organization and they auctioned it off for... ready for this... $9,001. YoooOOOooo.... All that money went to education and mentorship of young women interested in careers in coding. We made a puzzle as well, which sold for $1,000 and we printed “Zen of Python” decks of cards that were handed out in our booth. The Pythonistas (that’s what they call themselves) went wild. Don’t believe me? Peep the Reddit thread.
